GAMES GROUP

WALKING BUDDIES

Every Wednesday morning between 10 and 12 a dozen or so people meet in Loughton Library to have fun playing board or card games. This is a chance to meet new people with similar interests to you.

It is a drop-in session.  There is no need to book and it is open to all, not just to IG10 residents.  Games include Scrabble, Rummikub, Upwords and cribbage. Other board and card games are available, as are refreshments.  There is no charge.

LVC volunteers are there to ensure a warm welcome.  Just turn up and see if it’s for you.

New for 2019, the Walking Buddy Scheme provides volunteers to accompany someone on a walk.

Sometimes people lose confidence and the habit of going out unaccompanied. This may be due to physical illness and deterioration,  a recent operation such as hip replacement, a fall or mental health issues. The walk may just round the block or a couple of miles;  each case will be different.

Having a walking buddy with them, to give an arm, if necessary, and provide reassurance and company may be the beginning of getting back out in the neighbourhood and the community. All volunteers for this service have an enhanced DBS check.
